How making domino simulating in XSI.

Hi we are going to make Domino falling simulation in Softimage XSI it is easy and funny. Lets go

  1. create>primitive>poly>grid  change the U and V length to 50  this is base plane.

1

  1. create>primitive>poly>cube this is for dominos change the Y scale to 2 and Z to 0.25
  2. create>primitive>curves>circle change the Radius to 20 and rotate X to 90 deg. Now we are going to make domino instances and posing them along Circle. Your scene should be something like next image.

2

  1. now select cube1 (domino pieces) and select Edit>Duplicate/Instantiate>Duplicate Multiple change Z translation to -1

3

Now we have new 100 domino pieces to arrange along circle

  1. with new duplicated object still selected, select Constraint>Curve(path) new windows will open change the parameters like next image

Path %age to L(100)

4

Make  Tangency>Active ON
Change Axis to Align to Z like next image
5

Your scene should be like this image

6

Congratulation you make all objects that needed.

  1. go to simulation tab by pressing 4 then select all cubes 1 to 100 (domino pieces) and choose Create>Rigid Body>Active Rigid Body  I think the name is clear and explaining the mechanism
  2. select Grid (plane) and choose Create>Rigid Body>Passive Rigid Body
  3. Add gravity by choosing Get>Force >Gravity.
  4. Now change the timeline duration to 400 and hit play to see the play back!

It's Feeling good doesn’t it?

Here is the final Scene file Domino.scn (password for archived file is adib3d)
